Description

This Valentine Love Bug Oreo Cookie Recipe is quick, easy & kid-friendly. 2 Ingredients & sprinkles nets tons of yummy fun!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 family-size bag (19.1 oz.) Oreo cookies (48 cookies)
  • 1 (12 oz. bag) Wilton red candy melts
  • assorted sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Add the candy melts to a microwave safe bowl and heat them on 50% power. Go 30 seconds at a time, until they are fully melted. It took about 1 1/2 minutes for ours.
  2. Set up the area you’ll be working with silicone mats or wax paper. Prepare your work space with toothpicks, paper towels and shallow bowls with your sprinkle options and candy eyes. Have the melted candy and Oreos in a central location, so everything is easy to reach.
  3. Begin by dipping a chocolate sandwich cookie straight down into the bowl of melted red candy. Before lifting it out, gently rock it to the left and then to the right. That creates the curved line to separate the head and the body.
  4. Lift the cookie straight up out of the candy and let the excess drip off before laying it out on the waxed paper or silicone mat.
  5. Add your sprinkle decorations before the candy dries and then move on to repeat the dipping and decorating process with all the cookies.
  6. Pinch a few round sprinkles in your fingers and sprinkle them over the red candy area. If you have them, press 1 or 2 candy hearts into the red candy, too. For the eyes, we used a toothpick to dollop some melted candy onto the cookie and then pushed the eyes down into it.
  7. Ours dried in about 30 minutes. I was able to put some on a paper plate in a large zip-top bag for our granddaughter to take home with her. I just stored ours in a large zip-top bag on the counter.
